With the Volkswagen Atlas, One Size Really Does Fit All

Big families need big vehicles. There's not much getting around that, but that shouldn't mean you need to compromise drivability. While larger SUVs are generally more useful due to their increased seating capacity and cargo room; their size can often make for a cumbersome driving experience. Fortunately, humongous households from Coraopolis to Wintersville have a solution. Enter, the Volkswagen Atlas. Offering three rows of comfortable seating, the Atlas is the largest vehicle in the automaker's lineup. But don't let its substantial stature fool you, the Atlas is easy to drive, with handling that's hard to match in its segment.

Volkswagen Atlas Performance and Dimensions

Offered in seven trim levels-S, SE, SE with Technology, SE with Technology R-Line, SEL, SEL R-Line, and SEL Premium--the Atlas makes it easy for Wheeling and Weirton drivers to find their ideal balance of features and cost. Atlas S models come with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard, as is an eight-speed shiftable automatic transmission.

All other Atlas trim levels feature a 3.6-liter six cylinder engine paired with an eight-speed shiftable automatic transmission. Power output is boosted to 276 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is available.

When properly equipped the Atlas has a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 pounds.

With all seats in use, the Atlas boasts 20.4 cubic-feet of cargo room. With seats folded down, maximum cargo capacity balloons to 96.8 cubic-feet.

Volkswagen Atlas Standard and Available Features; Safety

The base model Atlas comes well-equipped with LED automatic headlights, dual zone climate control, and a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A suite of advanced safety features is also included on all Atlas trims. The Front Assist system includes Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, and Pedestrian Monitoring; while the Blind Spot Monitor can alert the driver of vehicles in their blind spot.

SE trims include tri-zone automatic climate control, upgraded upholstery, push button start, heated front seats, and an 8-inch touchscreen. SE models also have the option of replacing the second row bench with captain's chairs. Moving up one level to SE with Technology, adds remote engine start and a power liftgate. This trim also includes additional advanced safety technologies like Adaptive Cruise Control, and Active Blind Spot Monitor which, in addition to an alert, can provide steering input to keep the vehicle in its lane.

On SEL models, Volkswagen's Digital Cockpit display is included in place of the traditional gauge cluster. Also included are a panoramic sunroof, LED taillights, hands-free liftgate, an upgraded touchscreen with navigation, and a heated steering wheel.

R-Line models add sporty aesthetic upgrades such as 20-inch wheels, unique bumpers, badging, and side skirts, as well as interior trim accents.

The top-of-the-range SEL Premium adds automatic high-beams, heated and ventilated front seats and heated second row seats, a surround-view parking camera with a park assist system, and a 12-speaker premium Fender audio system. All-wheel drive is standard on this trim, as are unique 20-inch wheels.
